iPhone 5 pictures not syncing

My wife and I both have an iPhone 5. My son has an iPod Touch 5th gen.

Thru iTunes I choose to sync smart albums from iPhoto to these devices. Here lately my phone & my wife's phone will not sync the newest pics from iPhoto. These newer pics are in the same smart album that have been syncing all year long (no recent changes). My son's iPod is still syncing newer pics just fine. Both iPhones have plenty of room to store the pics.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This solved my problem.

I do still have a few questions as to why the problem was created originally, maybe you could help answer?

Here are a few possible reasons as to why I think I could have caused my initial issues:

1. I sync up to 4 different iOS devices with my iMAC and sync all of them to iPhoto within iTunes.

2. When new iOS devices are purchased in my family we use a backup copy to setup the new iOS device. This includes a new iPod Touch, 2 new iPhones & soon to be a new iPad.

3. When we purchased our MacBook Pro last Dec I setup this MacBook by cloneing my iMac.

Could any these be reasons as to why I've had the initial problem?
