i don't have any externals connected to my imac and i still experience slow wake from sleep mode....

i tried unpairing and repairing all my bluetooth devices and check/uncheck "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" and at first it seems like there was an improvement but alas it didn't work as it takes just as long to wake from sleep and the keyboard is unresponsive for the first 10 seconds after display turns on.

I wish i could go back to 10.8.4

I had a slow wake-up today woth the external device off, so that theory is out the window.

Yes - same problem from the minute that I installed the update (late 2012 27" iMac). I have also noticed that if there is any activity on one of my peripherals (e.g. printer used with another machine), the iMac half-wakes from sleep, with a hint of light grey at the bottom of the screen. I have tried booting in Safe Mode, reset NVRAM/PRAM and tried the combo update. No change. The problem when waking from sleep continues even when all peripherals are disconnected. Stuck!

This seems to be very much Bluetooth-related.

When the error occurs (and it isn't every time), all the BT HID's I have (keyboard, mouse, trackpad) reconnect - they are unresponsive, and the green light on the keyboard and trackpad come on before they are responsive again.

If there are any Apple techs reading, here's some example output of dmesg following a wake where the error occurs:

If I get time, I'll try switching out the Bluetooth stack with the one from 10.8.4 to see if that fixes the issue. I have a feeling it might.

It seems that the error only occurs after the system has slept for a prolonged period - a couple of hours or more, say. If I ask the machine to sleep, and wake it again a minute after it's gone down, it wakes instantly like it should.

agreed. the problem is most evident after it has slept for a long period. i usually experience it in the morning after being off all night

I've filed a bug report with Apple with logs and a complete description. Let's hope they give it some attention

I have the same issue with my 2012 27" iMac.  Also noticed the issued after installing 10.5.8 and iTunes update.  I've tried disconnecting all external devices, deleting cache files, PRAM etc but problem still exists.  Hopefully, Apple will find a fix!

+1 on the OP's observation/question. It was like a light switch after upgrading to 10.8.5 for me - suddenly SUPER slow waking up from sleep, particularly after an extended period of time. Let's hope the rumored OS patch will resolve this issue.

From looking at the console log (from an admin-authorised user), I can see that 10.8.5 if now HIBERNATING. That is, instead of just sleeping it is writing a complete memory image and then restoring from that when you wake it up. That's why it takes so long to wake. This is the behaviour for an SSD-based Macbook, and shouldn't be the behaviour for an AC-powered iMac. Makes sense for a laptop on battery power, because a hibernate will consume basically no power while asleep. But makes no sense for an iMac - it would save a minuscule amount of juice.

I've seen those log entries too... but I don't know that they weren't there before. Have you got logs from before the update?

If the machine is hibernating, something is quite wrong:

    iMac:~ drdaz$ pmset -g | grep hibernatemode

    hibernatemode        0

    They definitely weren't there before.

seeing this too since updating from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 on iMac with Fusion drive and bluetooth Apple Trackpad.

Screen cursor won't move until I press the Trackpad power button once, and as others have reported the wake up is slower than under 10.8.4.  I use wired keyboard.

Tried SMC and PRAM resets, neither improved the situation.
