Specs of memory mac mini 2011 on a 2012?

I have a mini 2011 w. 8gb ram. Planning to buy a mini 2012 i7. I look at the different specs of both versions for memory. Could i use the 8 gb of the 2011 in the 2012 ? (And either the 2012 4gb in the 2011 or i simply put back its original 4gb which i still have)?

Would there be a noticeable performance difference (assuming it wirks - for the 2012 i mean? Or are we talking plain theory in terms of human perception? (TypicL apps: Final Cut Pro x, Pro Tools 11, Adobe Premiere Pro...

Note that i might also plan later to swap a 512gb ssd but will probably start with the 1TB base hdd

You can't use 2011 memory in a 2012 but can the other way around except for 8 GB in a 2011

Mac mini (Late 2012) and Mac mini server (Late 2012) computers have two internal memory slots. These slots accept standard PC3-12800 DDR3 204-pin SO-DIMMs (Small Outline DIMM) with the following specifications:

  • PC3-12800 DDR3
  • Unbuffered
  • Non-parity
  • 204-pin module
  • 1600 MHz

You can use RAM module sizes of 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB in each slot. For best performance, don't mix sizes of memory modules. Install two identical memory modules.

  • 1333 MHz
