Maximum SSD size, and recommendations?

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 B RAM, mid-2010. I want to update the internal hard drive to an SSD drive with 750-960 GB memory. Is there a maximum number of GB that my MacBook can handle? And do any of you have recommendations on which SSD to buy? I work with 2 GB image files, switching between Photoshop, Lightroom and Perfect Resize, and this slows down my machine significantly. Thanks!

These high capacity SSD are still rather expensive.

In my latest 2012 MBP I have the 256GB SSD and have 1.5 TB placed in the superdrive slot: super solution. and much cheaper. The 1,5TB is partitioned in 3 partitions: one 250GB to use for a clone of the SSD with Carbon Copy Cloner, one 500GB for Libraries and Backups, and one 750GB for TimeMachine.

I don't use DVD drives already for years, but have one in an enclosere to connect to USB.
