How do I change from an ethernet connection to wireless for my Brother HL-2170W series printer using my new Airport Extremes with Air Port Utility 5.6.1?

The Node Type is Brother NC-6600h, Ethernet 10/100 BASE-TX (Active) and IP address is 10.0.1.28 (set manually) [static IP address].

It is printing fine when I have ethernet plugged in but I don't know how to change it from ethernet to wireless. Hope someone can assist.??

Thanks very much.

As far as OS X is concerned, a printer connected to your wired network and the same printer connected to your wireless network are two different printers.

Disconnect the printer from your wired network and set up a new printer in System Preferences > Print & Fax. Give it a name distinguishable from the one that already exists - such as "Brother HL-2170w Wireless". When printing a document, select the one you went to use.

A static IP address is a good idea but I suggest you assign it an address that is not likely to conflict with other IP addresses assigned by your Extreme. 10.0.1.28 may be too "low" in a list of sequentially assigned IP addresses.

In addition to reviewing the Brother's installation instructions, read the following Apple support documents:

If you recently purchased a new 802.11ac - capable Extreme, you need to use an iOS device, or a Mac running OS X "Lion" or later to configure it. Fortunately what you need to do is unrelated to AirPort Utility, and you do not require it to reconfigure your printer connection.
