ever since i got my macbook, i lift the lid and it wakes up automatically, but i hear like a very very short zipper like sound. sort of like a hard drive but a lot more like zipper then hardrive. help?

there are only 2 possible mechanical noises on opening an Air, 2 friction hinges on the lid to case, of which yours would likely be one of the first Ive ever heard of ever making a noise. Making this very unlikely the culprit.
most likely is the plastic hinge cover, which could be out of place, or a possible crack in same, which makes a creaking door noise when opening it.
make appt. with Apple for them to see for diagnostic / repair.
this is the black plastic hinge cover attached to the bottom of the monitor
im pretty sure its not the hinge. only when it wakes up. when i move the hinge up and down it doesnt make that sound. ive determined its inside the machine. is it the fan?
Ahh, you mentioned the noise when lifting the monitor open.
Air has only ONE moving part, the fan. Anyway you can post a youtube vid of the sound?
