My MacBook Air will not start up..not sure what is going on. The screen black when I opened it..didn't remember powering off when last used..tried to force quit - no luck..plugged into power source..felt hot..unplugged - sounds like fan is on sometimes?

ok, so I went a little long there.. forgot.. fan sounds like on but then again off..can't power on .. I have now unplugged it from power source. I have no idea why it will not boot on.

Go step by step.

Note: Steps 5 and 6

Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Reset SMC, hold the keys down for 20 seconds or more.

Shut the computer down and try to start it 12 hours later.

Best.
