You're going to need Snow Leopard (10.6) first before you can (possibly) upgrade to a later version: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then follow Niel's link to see if you can update to Lion or Mountain Lion.
