I know the various ways to get a count of items in a folder. This gives me the number of files and subfolders. Is there a way to include the number of files in the subfolders in the total folder count?
Get Info (cmd-i) on the folder. The number of items is next to the size.
If you want to look at several, either all at once, or sequentially, use Inspector (cmd-opt-i).
Get Info will open a window for everything selected.
Inspector will combine them all into one, and, when you change the selection in Finder, it will change to what is selected.
Edit: The item count includes the selected folder and the subfolders, so it is not just a file count.
Terminal command:
find /PATH/TO/FOLDER -type f | wc -l
This will recursively count all files in folder and subfolders, IE:
find ~/Music/ -type f | wc -l
13215

That will give you the count of just files, excluding the folders.
If you want to count the non-hidden files, you can do this:
find path/ -type f ! -name ".*" -flags nohidden | wc -lCan I get a count of all files in a folder, including in subfolders?
