Q: Mail can't get my mail via IMAP

Apple Mail 6.6 does not connect to my Mail account via IMAP. It keeps telling me that my passwort is wrong however, it definitely is not.

I can connect to my mail account (a gandi.net account) via thunderbird, via my android phone and via the terminal on my Mac. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanx!

Open the Connection Doctor in Mail, Window menu.

Click Show Detail, then Check Again. Look for the connection to your IMAP server and see what the IMAP server is replying back to your request. If it does say password is incorrect, and it is correct in the settings, then it is getting sent incorrectly. I would try deleting the entry from Keychain Access and try again. Open keychain access and search for your imap server name. Select and delete any entries for that account.

If it is something else, then post the response. Someone here may be able to interpret it.

    Hi Barney,

    thanks for the answer.

Connection doctor says passwort or username incorrect which is both impossibe. See details below.

There is no entry in the keychain. Every time I want to get my mail, it asks me for my password over and over again even though I entered it in the preferences.

That happens when there is corrupt data in the Keychain. Did you look in the keychain, or did you just assume it wasn't there because of the request for password?

Do you have ssl enabled? If so, you are connecting on the wrong port. It should be 993 according to this:

    http://wiki.gandi.net/en/mail/standard-settings

Make sure all the settings match what is described on that page.

Also, while Mail has the option to pick from 25, 465, 587, in the SMTP settings, use the custom option and type in the port recommended in that wiki page. This helps with some servers.

Thx, I solved it with your help! problem were permissions for the keychain folder in the library. Think I should fix all my permissions using terminal now, they really seem to be a mess since I recovered the system via Time Machine from my old computer...
