Hi, I am looking for ideas how to take advantage of all my old hard drives laying around, some form old computers, (2 from an old Mac Pro) some from failed enclosures (two from a Westeren Digital that I triend to upgrade the Firmwaare), etc. Thinking the Drobo, but it is pretty expensive, and I have heard mixed results.
I've have great service from OWC external enclosures, albeit with singe-drive models. Are all the drives you Have SATA? It's getting hard to find enclosures that accept PATA drives any more.

I had a bad WD enclosure that was nothing but trouble. I puled the drive from the enclosure and put it in an OWC encl and it works perfectly.
If you don't want to bother with enclosures get an adapter or dock. It is as simple as plug and play.
