Shut it down at low battery then plugged it in to charger. Tryed turning it on and it won't come on. Help!

Well last night I was using it for reaseach and it said it had a low battery. I just decided to go to bed on that note. By then it had 3% battery life remaining. I shut the MacBook down and plugged it up, thinking it would charge while off. Woke up the next morning to find it will not turn on. Help!
