Q: Finding Logic Pro Serial Number w/o Install Disk

I installed Logic Studio Version 9 a long time ago, and until now, have had no problem moving the application from computer to computer. However, after recently migrating all my stuff from a Macbook running Lion to an iMac running Mountain Lion, I can't open Logic. It asks me for a serial number I've long since lost track of, from an instal disk I no longer have. Is there any place within the installed software itself to locate the serial number?

Logic Studio, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

    1) The serial number is not on the install disk.. It is on a booklet that came as part of Logic Studio

    2) As far as if it is stored anywhere..? Yes it is.. but that serial is linked to your old Macbook... hence the need to enter the serial again for your iMac. This is probably linked to the fact that the license for Logic Studio allows you to install Logic Studio on one Mac laptop and one Mac desktop... and I wonder, as you said you had moved it before.. if you only moved between laptop to laptop.. in the past..  and never to a desktop?

    3) Bear in mind if your copy of Logic Studio 2.0 (Logic Pro 9) was the upgrade version then you will also need the serial number from the Full version of Logic Studio 1.0 (Logic Pro 8) too...

So, how to legally obtain a replacement serial number for Logic Studio 2.0 (and 1.0 if again, your 2.0 was the upgrade version)?

Also, if you registered the software with Apple, they should have it on file under your name.

Thank you, AofS. And I apologize for the multiple posts. I kept receiving error messages and did not think my queries had stuck. I did indeed locate the Logic Studio System ID in the Application Support folder, but it is a type of file (ccc_helper) that I've never seen before and that my Mac doesn't recognize. It won't open in any other application. (It seems to be an ancillary to Carbon Copy Cloner, but I can't imagin why...) And to answer your earlier question, no, I've never installed Logic on a desktop before.

No worries about the multiple posts.. i realised afterwards that the forum was having issues so I guessed that was why....

You can't see the serial number in that file.. Its encrypted so that wouldn't help . Its nothing to do with CCC.... that's just a coincidence...

You can try, if you haven't already, simply copying across that file from its place on your laptop into the same location on your desktop and see if that works but I'm guessing it wont...

    However, upon further thought....

If you can still run Logic on your Laptop however, you can find your serial by going to the "About Logic Pro" menu item as the serial is part of that dialog box that appears...  and then you can enter that on your desktop when asked... and fingers crossed that might solve your issue!

I lost my Logic 9 serial, i had moved house and we were flooded out about 6 months before i lost it and had to chuck a lot of paperwork out that was caught in the water.  I wanted to put it on to my new mac, and like a fool i had uninstalled it from my older iMac so was left with nothing but the disks.

Contacted Apple and they were no help whatsoever for me, i was really annoyed with them, complained and hit a brick wall where they couldn't offer to help as i could find no receipt either, never offered to check their system for me.

Luckily i had put the serial number in my old iMac box, which i didn't discover until a few weeks later, along with the receipt.

I was so pleased to find it!   ...but i do resent Apple a little after my dealings, really felt hung out to dry.  As LP9 had just appeared on the app store at the time i did wonder if they were trying to drop any 'old school' boxed LP9/Logic Studio enquiries.

If they do provide you with a new serial, i beleive there's a fee for it too from my correspondance so it may be worth checking out what that is first, and whether you're best putting that into Logic Pro X.

Also, if you have Logic running on any of your old machines i think you can go to the About menu and it's displayed on there.

Many thanks. I think I now understand the origin of the problem. What I have is a "volume license," installed from a disk shared by my production group. Hence, no serial number shows up in the 'About Logic Pro' dialog box. I may just be ouy of luck, and will have to spring for Logic 10 a little earlier than I was prepared to.

Indeed. a Volume license would make sense.... if no serial shows up in that dialog box so yes, time to upgrade to LPX it seems.

The serial infofile you need (for logic pro 8) (no need to retype serial no) lies at
    'Application Support/ProApps
the file is called ''Logic Studio System ID''

Logic Pro should run as previously installed

just copy the file to the new user account in case of userswitch/computer update . If you as I can't find the package or serial - just copying this file from ur old user account where it was working will save your program's old ui.

    Blackwing_chr,

when you say one must copy the file from the old user account - I don't quite understand where I need to move the file. I've successfully found "Logic Studio System ID" but I don't know where to move it to. Can you please explain?

    Thanks!
