How can I extend my podcasts episodes to more than 10?

Please explain... this makes no sense.

For example:
I am in iTunes. I have subscribed to a radio podcast which downloads a 3 hour show each day. Each hour is an "episode" in itunes. So each show has 6 episodes. On the "Podcasts" tab of my iPhone in the iTunes menu for my device, I have a choice of several instructions for iTunes to automatically include some number of episodes. If I want the most recent, I am limited to 10. In this case, this would mean less than two shows. This problem is all over the internet. It seems to be a problem for some large percentage of all podcast users and not music listeners. There must be a default control somewhere. Please stay with me. I would appreciate any help. You would be a hero.

You should be able to manage this by creating a smart playlist with suitable rules, such as all episodes of the podcast that are less than, say, 2 weeks old and have a play count of 0. Enable the option to include podcast episodes from playlists and include the playlist in your sync selections.
