I am going to the US for a year and would like to know can I buy things from the US iTunes Store and If I can when I get back to New Zealand do I still have what I purchased in the US iTunes Store????

You can change your address, credit card, etc in your account information and use the U.S Store. You will not lose anything when you change stores. However, you cannot redownload content from one country when you are in another country.
