How to Stop Mail from Sending Reminders

So I am getting all these email reminders sent to my gmail account from my default account in Mail. They are in the sent mailbox as proof. The 'ignore alerts' is unchecked for all calendars.

I don't want to just block those emails - I want to stop them.

Anyone has a fix for that?

That solution would work if I wanted all reminders to stop.

I am ok with a Gmail reminder. I don't want Mail to send me 4 copies of it. I want none originating from Mail. I have simply removed my Google calendar account from iCal. Not a solution, but at least until something better is suggested, Mail doesn't stall my MBP from starting up to send those reminders, and I don't get spammed by ... myself!
