Can't remove back cover

Is there a trick to it? We spilled hot coffee near the left side. Want to open it to dry off. All screws are out, yet it seems to be attached inside near the middle. Can lift up all of the edges but it won't come free. Don't want to force it...but do want to dry it out before it is too late!!!

You mean the bottom cover I hope, .....the back cover would be indicating the monitor cover.

merely taking the bottom cover off you wont be reaching the spill (most of it) as you indicated you spilled it near the fan

dont dare turn it on, water / liquids migrate.

Turning it back on is BAD, damage A can lead to B leads to C etc.

Also water migrating around, especially while on, can wreck havoc worse than initial damage.

Nobody here can speculate on damage on something they cannot see.

Having repaired laptops in the past, even IF you got it completely dry, residue from water (iron particles etc), and wet spots under fine contacts is nearly impossible to "dry out", its just doesnt work that way.

Coffee even worse on the residue end which is nearly as bad as liquid shorting.

Lots of people try to "dry it out", most to learn little was solved in doing same, and sometimes further damage occurred.

Taking it apart, and the hidden spots will REMAIN wet for some time, even IF you dry to "dry it out"

Make appt. with Apple store fore repair / diagnostic.

dont turn it on. Sorry about the spill 😟

Unfortunately the owner turned it on and off a few times.

Eeeek. When you turn on / off / on a laptop with liquid inside, its what one laptop technician friend of mine used to call "rolling dynamite" inside the computer 😊

hopefully at least you can get your DATA back and salvage the HD. HD cases are sealed and its extremely likely you can recover the HD and its data A-OK

Well, that's good news, anyway! I can tell you that the owner was very calm about it, much to his credit. Said it was a reminder to him that he shouldn't leave his laptop on the dining room table. You gotta love people who take responsibility for their part in a mishap. Perspective is a great thing so you don't hurt the ones you love.

"Rolling dynamite" --I like that. He will too--great sense of humor.

Its only kinda funny. I used to get laptops from some folks for repair, like they were holding out their own children that had passed away, hoping you could bring them back to life.

some due to the laptop itself,....most others because they never backed up their data, and it had pictures of loved ones, years of work, documents they spent 1000s of hours on,.......all of it lost forever.

some of those faces are burned into my mind, sad. 😢

good luck 😍
