OS update

I am using 10.8.5 on my iMac but 10.6.8 on my MacBookPro. Do I have to install 10.7 befor updating the MacBook Pro and do I have to buy it from the Apple Store?

No. You can redownload Mountain Lion for free from the App Store provided you purchased it for your iMac. If Mountain Lion came pre-installed on your iMac, then you will have to purchase it for your MBP.
