Java won't work!

Hi

I cna't seem to get Java to work - I'm on Lion - whatever I do. I've re-installed from Java's site, I've sung the national anthem backwards, I've chanted, but nothing is working. All that happens is that i get re-directed back to the test page and asked to try again as a newer version is available etc. of course this doesn't work. I've tried switching off the firewall, enabling java (which it already was) in Safari, and I don't know what else.

Any suggestions welcome.
