Anyone got jack Pilot to work in 10.8.4?

I want to use jack Pilot and had found several people on other forums who had issues with Jack and 10.8

Does anyone here use Jack Pilot in 10.8 running Logic Pro 9.1.8?

It works OK on my mbp but it is still 10.6.8.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 2.3GHz Intel Core i5,8GB 1333MHz D

Thanks to both of you for trying. I must have really badly put the question into words because I meant to say is that Jack Pilot works fine in 10.6.8 no bridge needed for 64-bit,wait that is what I wrote, anyway, the problem is that 10.8 is so bad for Audio use that it often produces no sound at all.

Search the forums if you want and you will find many problems with 10.8 audio, there is most likely one here on this page on the upper right.

The version of Jack Pilot I can install is 64-bit. So what is meant by 'checking for Rosetta stone' intended to alleviate in 10.8?

We know already how little Apple cares about Professional users, that is why I posted this in the Forum here, it would do me no good to post it in the Logic Pro forum, they may have an answer but they must protect their own interests and most are not even doing it to earn points.

The question was "Has anyone gotten it to work in 10.8", you have both been very kind to offer answers but they seem to be answers to some other questions. But BRAVO for trying!

If Get Info says Open Using Rosetta, then the application is only designed for Pre2006 Macs known as PowerPC. Rosetta is the built in transition software allowing PowerPC applications to run on Intel Macs such as the MacBook series and Mac Pro series. Alas that transition software is not available in 10.7 or 10.8 except through the hack linked in my first reply.

October 20, 2012 - We have experienced several issues beginning with OS 10.7.x and through 10.8.x, relating to changes in how Apple has implemented its underlying audio frameworks, as well as with its sandboxing of applications. We are continuing to try and work through these, but at the moment we do not have a solid idea of when we will be able to get around the problems. If anyone wants to help, please, get in touch.

The above from the JackOSX pages.

And that's the most recent posting.

This is a very odd comment given the users here.....

I'm curious to know what you mean by... "they may have an answer but they must protect their own interests" given this is the Logic Pro forum......

As for your question about Jack Pilot... I have tested the 32/64bit Jack Server under 10.8.4 and it is extremely unstable... It is not anything connected with Logic Pro as it is unstable with any DAW I have tested, running under 10.8.x... including, but not limited to... LP9 (64bit mode), LPX, Live9 (64bit) and DP8. For this, I can only assume it is Jack itself which is seriously in need of an update to make it fully ML compatible...

Note: I tested their latest beta version, v0.9 beta 15 and the instability still exists and has been heavily documented in their forums.... It works fine by itself but when installed alongside a DAW that is using CoreAudio.. then, this is where the instability and crashes occur. Uninstalling Jack restores stability immediately.

Finally, it's worth noting that the last non beta version of Jack was 0.89 released back in Dec 2011...... so after almost 2 years of development of Jack 0.90, things are still not fixed in regards to its use under 10.7 or 10.8.....

Read into that what you will.

I must give my sincerest apologies to all of you for what I have written until now; the usual rant of an idiot.

I checked my MBP to see that Jack Pilot was what I was using on it in 10.6.8 with Logic 9.1.8 and to my great surprise discovered that though it was installed, I had never configured it and so I never actually used it,I assume after configuration is when it would show up in AUdio/MIDI set up and it wasn't there,my very bad.

I was working fairly well in Logic 9.1.8 on the MBP[10.6.8] except that the audio kept doing strange things like not working at all, or worse fading slowly away from the 2 backing tracks[Both Pianos] in playback mode while I was practicing the solo part, the harder I blew into the Akai breath controller the less fade out in the piano background.

How could increasing the cc2 and cc11 coming from the breath controller affect the volume of the other tracks? each track is assigned to its' own channel.

All still in MIDI for now while I practice so that I can correct the wrong notes that appear in the MIDI files when Logic is shut down, the settings all change too,no overlap goes to overlap and all quantize values change and interpretation turns its' self on.

I bought this Mini in oct. 2012, and it came with ML installed, otherwise I would never move up to a new OSX until the 5th or 6th version when the worst bugs might have been fixed. I have never gotten the audio to work as expected, unless complete randomness is now the norm for audio, is it?

Thank you Art of Sound for pointing out the worst of my idiotic rant,I read it now and think-what the heck was I doing when I wrote that. Obviously not thinking very competently.

maybe I was thinking of a WoodyAllen quote; "If you're not failing every now and again, it's a sign that you're not doing anything very inovative." I may be the exception.

The idiot again, I was wondering if Sound Flower will work with Logic Pro 9.1.8 and 10.8.4 on a 2012 Mini, from reading the Mini Forum and the ML forum there seems to have been trouble with the Minis' output since 2005,and it is still there as a topic.

But I wasn't using it when this Mini worked using the builtin output and having a splitter in the headphone jack that splits to two places-the headphones and the JBLpowered Monitor speakers which can be turned off if the neighbors complain about the noise.

When it was working there was only the single USB MIDIMATE ll whichis just a USB plug with 2 MIDI cables-it determines if the cables are ior out, could ML searching for peripherals by sending out through that USB MIDIMATE ll which might disrupt the audio output, it worked for a month or so then stopped.

I have made a fool of myself above so maybe no one will answer, my bad luck but somepeople are forgiving and so I thought try it again, having found no answers in the other two forums.

Hey 55...

I have to ask... What trouble with Mini's output?

I own three 2011 Mac Minis and two 2012 Mac Minis (as well as two 2008/2009 Minis) and I have had absolutely no problems with Audio or output at all so I'm curious.... Can you provide a link or two so i can read up on these issues please?

The problem I think you are having, is being caused by what you are trying to do and what you are using to try to achieve it...

Examples;

1) The USB Midimate II (and all it's imitators that are based on the same core design) is, in essence.. a really cheap Midi interface that is known to have/cause all kinds of issues with the changes made in Lion and Mountain Lion and USB ports/routines.. Long story short, when Apple added USB3 to their new line of Macs they made some changes to how USB is handled within their OS X.. and if the makers of USB devices had followed the original recommendations for USB 2 handling, the makers of USB 2 devices would have no problems but sadly, some Makers didn't follow the original recommendations to the letter and so when Apple made these changes, their USB 2 devices had issues.. which in some instances can be fixed by firmware or driver updates but for the really cheaply designed stuff, there are no fixes.

Solution? Get a good quality audio/midi interface... that has well written and designed firmware/hardware/drivers and you wont have these issues..

2) Using something like Jack or SoundFlower.. to route audio... is always going to cause issues of one kind or another with Pro level DAWs simply because of what these apps are doing and how in many cases they circumvent the 'correct' way of doing things in order to function... which then conflicts or causes conflicts with Apps that are doing things the 'correct' way.

So.. just so we are all clear... Why do you need something like Jack or SoundFlower and what are you trying to achieve/do using these audio routing apps? There may be much better solutions than using an audio routing app....

Cheers!

Art of Sound, thank you for being so kind as to consider going on with this.

I am sorry to reply so late I have been visiting family and don't own any smart phone or iPad or whatever. Wish I did but I don't.

I will tomorrow answer to the best of my ability the questions you asked and try to explain the troubles I am having. Seeing that you know so much and are willing to share your knowledge I willl ask one simple question: Can you name a good MIDI inteface that has 1MIDI connection? I use a breath controller and that is the only thing I need-to get the MIDI from it into Logic,I have seen many very expensive multiple MIDI I/O units but simply cabling one MIDI channel into Logic is all I will ever need. I have never seen a MOTU unit with only 1 or 2 MIDI I/O's and the big rigs are just too much money for me.

I checked on my MBP and it has SOund Flower installed but again, never onfigured it so I have been doing fine with the Minis' built in outpt,it's actually a geat relief to realize I don't need any extras to do what I want to do- except the single MDI in.More tomorrow, eyes are getting really bad, can't see the difference between a c and a b,so time to shut down the Mini. I aplogize for any spelling and grammatical errors but I can't read what I just typed, glaucoma can be ****.

Sep 22, 2013 2:05 AM in response to chorleyman

Hi choreleyman! Thanks for the effort, I found out that 10.8 was sending a search signal out looking for new periphrerals and this was sent into my Akai breath controller whch stopped it from working correctly.

Now I don't plug in that MIDI cable-only the cable that sends my controller info to Logic gets plugged in and that made a huge difference.

Fortunately, since I only need one single MIDI in I have no need for jack Pilot or any other extras the built in output of the mini is enough for my needs, and the work around to get Jack Pilot working is too hard for me to understand.

Sep 22, 2013 2:17 AM in response to The Art Of Sound

Hi Art of Sound, it is SUnday morning here and I have found a solution that makes anything extra like jack Pilot ot Plgue Bidule not needed the MIDIMATE ll and the builtin output do all I need; but I do plan to answer your questions tomorrow. Family visiting today, some still poisen their bodies with animal products so I must try to accomodate them, they didn't choose to do it, the government under pressure from Big Ag has control of the food supply in the US and is killing you all for higher profits-I do Love this country-what comic relief it supplies the rest of the world.

Look to the right of this post, there is a link to Mini audio problems.
