Probably not if your camera's user manual or Apple's list of iMovie '11 Supported Cameras doesn't show your Sony DV's model number.
All of my Sony Digital cameras work with my Mac, but there have been some Sony DVs (called "micro-DV" as I recall) that were not Mac compatible. You may simply have a bad cable, adapter, or connector. If you think yours should be Mac compatible, perhaps you will find some help in iMovie '08 or later: Cannot see or control camera.
