A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:

  • The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
  • You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
  • One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.

If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation. Please post back your results.

Great...the light is now solid green! However, it didn't solve my YouTube problem. I was hoping this was related to the router. I have updated my Chrome, emptied the cache, changed the video quality. We began experiencing this problem when we got the Airport Express. I can stream videos on other sites and can even see the advertisemnts on YouTube, but not the actual YouTube Video. Has this happened to anyone else? This happens on both laptops and ipods.

yes, watching YouTube videos on computer via a web browser. I have the latest version of Chrome and have Windows 7 OS. Have 2 laptops with the same configurations, and also cannot watch via YouTube app on IPod or via Safari on IPod. SInce every device is having the same issue, I figured it might have something to do with the router.

As far as I know there are no known incompatibilities between YouTube and Apple routers.

As you may already know, YouTube video requires just a few things:

  • Adobe Flash Player
  • Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, or Opera web browser
  • An Internet connection with at least a 500 Kbps of download bandwidth. Premium content streams may require up to 1+ Mbps.
  • Premium content streams also have operating system requirements: Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.7+, Ubuntu 10+ or Linux OS 11+. Not sure about iOS, but I'm guessing v6.0+

At this point since you starting having the issue after replacing the Netgear with the Express, I can only recommend that you perform a full Power Recycle of your networking hardware to make sure that they are communicating properly. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details.

Is it possible you simply need to update Flash Player? Adobe released a new version within the past few days, and OS X now disables outdated versions by default. When that occurs Safari will show an informative message but I don't know what Chrome does.

Download it from this site: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If that's the case your Express problems would have been merely coincidental.
