My iPad is running slow and the touch screen is slow to respond

When I start up my iPad, the slider button doesn't respond to touch until the screen times out and I press the start button again. Then the iPad runs sluggish. I deleted some unused programs.

Is there anything I can do?

Hi Marys360. iOS has changed over the years. Now, you can force quit apps by doible-clicking on the Home button. Swipe left or right to select an app, then swipe up to push it off the screen. This is the equivalent of clearing the "recents" tray. Also, take a look at the suggestions in this link: Slow iPad on iOS 9, 10 or 11!.

Quit all apps in the recents tray, reboot your iPad and then see how things go as you start using apps again.

Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus ➖ sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I tried everything that was mentioned above and none of it worked, in the end I found out that a mailing address had been changed somehow, after rectifying this things now work perfectly.

Go to: Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > scroll down and check that your mail and contact default addresses are both the same.
