Backup issue

A recent aperture problem forced me to restore the picture library from Timemachine. The process was inadvertently stopped and had to be restarted. It went well. However, a chunk of backup has ended up on my harddrive , occupying 56 gb of valuable realestate. I cant find it to delete, I can see it in About This Mac storage area labeled as backup but cant find it to delete. Please help.
