Ipod Illiterate needs help :o)

Hello - hope this is an easy question. I finally got Itunes on my laptop, it recognized the IPOD and let me name it so I am good there. However i seem to have loaded the same cd 3 times, and instead of the artist name in the artist option it shows all the songs. Is there a step by step instruction booklet on how to organize and download?
