Hi,I just got my first iPhone and I'm trying to set it up. When I enter my gmail account as my aple user account, it keeps telling me that my account is already taken. But it's my account, so I tried going to the "ilost.password" link and I changed my password, but it still tells me that my account can't be used as my apple ID. Gaah! Help me, please. What am I doing wrong?

Is your gmail address your Apple ID? Are you putting in the same Apple ID and password that you used to log into the Discussions page? It sounds as if you are clicking on the link to create an Apple ID rather than logging in with your existing one.
Yes, it was asking to create a new apple ID, but it ws allowing me the option of using my existing email, so I put in my gamil and it said I can't use it. Very confusing. I just went with an icloud account to get past it, but now I don't know if I can sync my contacts from gmail.
The email address that you have is already used in the apple id as a primary email or secondary email to another apple id for you to use that u must disassociate it from another apple id or you could reset the apple id password from iforgot.apple.com hope this helps...:) good day
Active sync from gmail for contacts is not availlable on the ios 6.1.3 or 6.1.4 , it must be available on the ios 7 lets wait for that later .....now if you want you can create the gmail account cardav account to sync contacts to the iphone by going to settings > mail contacts and calendars > add acct > add cardav account and put your gmail info ......
Are you using ur email password to sign in with the CarDav account....your webmail is different with your apple id just tonclarify you must use your email password on the cardav account not the apple id password ok ?
Tired of apple... don't know why I can't use the same apple id i use on my mac mini .. i'm not sure why apple make things so complicated ..having second thoughts about my ipad air..oh .. is that it .. apple won't allow a gmail id anymore as apple id ? God .. then i have to get rid of this ipad ..
Tried that, it says CardDAV account verification failed. ?? It's my account! And it has my password. I don't understand why Apple hates me. Google.com is server, yes?
