How to backup text messages in iCloud?

Hello everyone,

Just before the release of the latest iOS upgrade, i want to know whether we can actually backup the text messages on iCloud or we need to do any third party installations to do the process. I have a lot of text messages that are need to be retrived back after the upgrade.

Thanks

Nay, text messages are not saved in iCloud but rather in the computer. There's no option for text messages. If there isn't an option available to save text messages then you cannot save them. It'll save as general data and restore along with general data only when you restore the device from the iCloud, but not as a new device. Once you set it up as a new device, you no longer the owner of those messages. The objective/key question here which is widely misunderstood is that can you backup text messages into iCloud and retrieve them at will, even if you delete them from your phone? I mean if you delete the text messages from the phone and automatically deletes from iCloud, then what kind of backup is that?

Those settings only reflect the things you have the option not to include in the backup, not everthing that is backed up. This article explains what is backed up:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859. You will not that is says, in part:

You get 5GB of free iCloud storage for:

  • Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
  • Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
  • App data
  • Home screen and app organization
  • Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
  • Ringtones
  • Visual Voicemails

Messages are included in the backup, they just don't appear in the setting you are looking at because you don't have the option to not include them in the backup.
