Q: my ipad 2 has not had a software update since ios 5, and its not offering me one either.  I have not been able to update my apps as a results, what can I do?

Are you certain you have an iPad 2?

A 1st generation iPad cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1  If that is what you are now running and you are not seeing any further updates when you check for them, then I wuold say you do not actually have an iPad 2, but you have an iPad 1.
