scanner hangs after security update

After downloading security update 2013-004 my scanner hangs with image capture and diretly from printer. I'm running OSX-10.6.8 and a canon pixma mp600 all in one printer. Printing works fine. I've tried unplugging power to printer and repowering which allows me to get past "trying to open a scanner" message window and past the "scanner warmup" and then to the "scanning" but there it hangs forever. I've tried downloading drivers. It worked fine just before the security update. Any ideas?
