can i replace the hard of a 5th generation 30gb ipod with a bigger hard drive?

so i have an old ipod classic (i think its the 5th generation, but im not sure, its the old one anyway ^^) that crashed. i was told it is the hard. i intend to buy a new hard and replace it (take it to someone to replace it... not do it myself). now here is my question: if i buy a bigger hard, will they work together, and if they do what type of hards should i buy (only the 5th generation or would new ones also work)? i would love to make it bigger, but if i risk buying it and not working i would gladly just leave it to 30gb as is.

iPod classic, Windows 7
