Q: Error 102 when trying to download OS X 10.8.5, Help!

I am using a Macbook Pro 8,2 on 10.8.4

When attempting to download and install the 10.8.5 update via the Mac App Store, I receive an error 102 before the download will begin! I even tried to download the update directly from the Apple support site only to be hit with an access denied page :/

What can I do?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Lots of people having this problem today. I think their servers are just busy because everyone is trying to download updates. I would just give it some time and keep trying. Here's a link that will explain things:

I am receiving this, too. Has to be the iOS release causing these foul ups. A friend is also having unrelated iTunes trouble.

It took me 4 or 5 tries of partial download, then error message and try again.  Finally completed entire download.

It appears Apples download servers are overwhelmed’ today.  I couldn’t download the newest iTunes update or IOS 7 and there are a lot of discussions today about not being able to download. One poster said they had chatted with App Store support who confirmed the problem.

I had the same problem on both my Macs (error 102), when I tried to install the OS X, iTunes, and AirPort update.

I downloaded the Combo Update from Eric Root's link (posted above --- TY).  When I try to launch the Combo Update installer it says "no mountable file systems".

    Perhaps this is a sign...

I was able to update iTunes 11.1.0 and AirPort Utility 6.3.1 individually from the App Store (which is part of the combo update).

I will wait a few days and try OS X 10.8.5 again.

My issue was the same, but for a different reason. The update from the App store gave me the error 102. When I downloaded the update direct from the Apple site and tried to install that, I got an error that said my OS was incompatible with the update.

Here's how I successfully did the update:
    1. Opened app store and went to the "updates" tab

    2. At the bottom of the description for the 10.8.5 update is a tiny link that expands the package into components. Install each one individually by clicking on the "install" button next to each one. I was able to install all the components from this update using this method except iPhoto 9.4.3.

    3. Search for "iPhoto 9.4.3 update" on the apple site (not the App Store), downloaded that and installed it.

This should work - if it doesn't, restart while holding down the "shift" key (puts you in 'safe mode') and try the above steps in safe mode.
