I was able to find away to shrink pictures to use for my background. I got the instasize app, picked the picture I wanted and it makes it smaller. You have to zoom out even more to make the picture smaller. Press the share button and add it to your album. Close the app and enter your pictures. Select the picture to make your screen and then you will be able to adjust the size to whatever you want. The only problem is you may end up with a white border, but at least you'll have the background you want. Hope this helps

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one infuriated by this issue. For as long as I can recall I've respected Apple for making products that "just work." This is something that should have been addressed in the iOS 7 beta stage.

This is seriously annoying it works fine on all the previous types of iPads, iPods, iPhones, and now they make it more difficult, and then after the last update it's even more difficult.

I tried using an app called Wallax and it almost worked. The app basically takes your photo, places it on square background and resizes the whole thing. This probably worked prior to the last fix (it's exactly what I was doing with Photoshop Touch) but not now. After fiddling around in PS Touch for a while I discovered that creating a 2448 x 2448 background and then adding the photo you want it will then show a screen allowing you to move the picture if needed. The only time I moved/resized the second layer was if the photo desired was of lower resolution. Works like a charm.

Apple really needs to change this... I like using the photos I take as my background and I am extremely disappointed that I can not and that this has not been changed! For those of you who want photos that fit you can use an app called zedge if you just want wallpapers that fit but are not your own. Its a wallpaper app that apparently sizes the photo properly... only place I can find useable photos since I can't use my own.

the suggestion by 'leavingappleinthedust' worked perfectly for me.

My girlfriend and I where having the same issue. And she figured out the best solution I've heard of so far.

    From Within Camera Roll

    1. SELECT PICTURE SO THAT IT GOES TO FULL SCREEN

2.PINCH TO ZOOM TO THE SIZE YOU WANT THE WALLPAPER TO BE

3.HIT SHARE BUTTON TO ADD AS WALLPAPER

4.SCALE PHOTO ONCE MORE TO YOUR LIKING

    PRESTO!!!

This worked for us anyway!! Hope I could help

    ^ Klobbs, that doesn't work.

It frustrates me that this has been an issue for nearly a year with no fix from apple. I don't want to install an extra app to do something that should be standard.

Edit: abarm316, I tried that app out but don't like the result. The background is white. I want black.

I was looking at my old iphone4 with ios 6 or whatever - and I want to be able to do the screen lock wall paper like that. Black background, and the photo not going the full width of the screen.

Ok I can't double edit but that instasize app, despite the horrible ads, seems to be the best option.

Was able to resize small enough and add a black background.

ALTHOUGH THIS IS MY FIRST POST, I HAVE DONE LOTS OF READING AND RESEARCH (OTHER BLOGS AND FORUMS) FOR A RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM SINCE IOS7 WAS INTRODUCED LAST YEAR. THIS THREAD IS NOW 59 PAGES LONG AND (UNPAID) USERS HAVE PROVIDED LOTS OF SUGGESTIONS (NONE THAT WORK) WHILE (WELL-PAID) "APPLE" EMPLOYEES CONTINUE TO DISREGARD THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH WE ARE UP TO VERSION 7.3 AND STILL THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. WHENEVER AN UPDATE OCCURS, I HAVE WAITED A FEW WEEKS TO READ UP ON USERS NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES, BUT THIS ONE APPEARS TO BE THE MOST ANNOYING! APPLE....HELLOoooooooo.....

Wallpaper fix app from the App Store

I had all the same problems but I just got this iPad Air with latest io, and I can assure you this app works...

TRIED THAT P.O.S APP. IT DOESNT WORK. I HAVE THOUSANDS OF PHOTOS. DO YOU REALLY THINK ANYONE HAS TIME TO F$&$&K WITH AN APP THAT DOES ONE PHOTO AT A TIME. I SOLD MY IPAD,

    NEVER AGAIN.

    BELIEVE IT

Really, and we skipped 7.2 completely?

I've finally made the move to 7.1.1 (as it came on a "new" 4S I acquired), After doing a restore off a fresh backup of my previous iPhone, the wallpapers are among the few things that have *not* changed. The green soap-stone like background has been on my iDevices ever since iOS 4 on my old iTouch 3G, and somehow iOS 7 knew how to render it before I even switched off all optional eye-sores. Same for the lock screen background. At least I didn't have to worry about where to find the original for that background!

Just found something that worked for me, if you have your iPad in portrait mode when you set the wallpaper (perspective zoom off, and pinch around to suit) it seems not to rescale the image in landscape mode....! I've tried this on both 2048 x 2048 and 2448 and this seems to keep the image as you set it...

  • LiselleL Level 1 Level 1

Technically, YES, iOS7 is up to the third version. Add up (7.0 + 7.1 + 7.1.1) = Version 3. But then again, why get picky? Apple SHOULD be doing something about it. Why should I buy an (unworkable) app; or an iPad Air; or only look at my photos in portrait mode?
