iOS7 update - it reset all my emails to unread

I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS7 today but it reset all my emails in the Mail app to being unread, even the ones not downloaded to my phone. How can I change it so it only thinks new emails are unread? I know about the 'Mark All' then 'Read', but that only does a handful of messages at a time. It thinks all the emails in my account - thousands of them - are unread. Since the phone only fetches a certain number of emails at a time, it would take forever to fetch them all to my phone, and I don't want all of them locally anyway.

Thanks!

The problem I am having is not specifically with unread mail but with the badge (at the mail icon) showing double the number of new messages. Always double...2 actual new messages will show as 4 in the badge, etc.

Anyone else having this issue? I have checked and rechecked the mail set-up and everything is fine. The issue only started after the download of IOS7.

With all these problems, wonder why there has not yet been a further update.

My problem is similar, many many old deleted emails have reappeared - have tried all the fixes mentioned but nothing has worked.

After each of the iOS7 updates the phone has restored as many old deleted emails as it can (space permitting) from my POP3 email account (not gmail, yahoo or hotmail).

The key issues for me are:

* Privacy - Where are the emails coming from? - the phone is restoring deleted private emails from up to 1 year ago. They are no longer on my mail server and have not been for many months (have always been set to delete after download) - so how is the phone restoring them? I do not use cloud services and never have - I am concerned as to where these emails are being restored from and that I can't delete them permanently.

* Space - The phone is downloading as many emails as it can until the phone is full! The emails include attachments. Each time I delete them more are downloaded.

* Productivity - Deleting the emails manually is a complete waste of time, and took well over an hour the last time this happened - I can't see a way of selecting all emails for deletion and then deselecting the few recent I would like to keep before sending the majority to the trash.

I have been tolerant of update problems in the past but this probably the last straw unless there's a fix.

Yep!!! Everything has been deleted from my iOS7 mail account (Comcast POP..) and on line also, but the badge still shows 1631 unread.. The inbox and trash are both empty, and there are none on line to download... but it's still screwed up!!! Apple needs to stop these mass roll outs, where nothing is tested and it causes problems... Did Apple set up the new health care system too??? They're getting more like Microsoft all the time... "roll it out on time... then try to fix it..."

After trying every other suggestion... I went on-line to my email account and deleted everything in my in box. Then deleted my mail account on my iPhone. Then Added an account (the same one I just deleted..) and it took it a couple of minutes to refresh the mail badge, but it soon realized that there were NO emails in the in box, and a test email showed up on the badge as " 1 ", and went away after reading it... so all is as it should be... again!!! FIXED!🙂
