Configurator crashing when device connected

Is anyone else having an issue with Configurator crashing whenever a device is connected? I am in the middle of an iPad deployment. It started out fine, today, but I think Apple was updating their iTunes store. At some point, I could not longer install apps that I had legitimate codes for. I needed to go into iTunes and agree to the new Terms that came out today. After that, I was fine. Then I noticed my devices showed an update for iBooks, but iTunes did not recognize it. I got it from thje App store and was able to update the iPads using that. After a while (where everything was fine) Configurator recognized iOS 7 and looked like it started to update the iPad, but failed with errors that pointed to not being able to contact the iTunes store. Shortly after that, I could not longer do anything with configurator. It launches fine, and would stay up, but the minute I hooked up a device (including new iPads right out of the box) it just unexpectedly quits.


I noticed a new version of iTunes, but I am not able to install it for whatever reason. I restarted the computer many times, and repaired permissions. THe logs show the following:

We are having this problem as well. I believe it resolves around iOS 7.0 that was released today. We left our option to automatically check for the latest iOS on our supervised iPads. As a result I believe it is crashing the program as it doesn't know how to handle factory fresh iOS 7. I am going to experiment tomorrow with trying to get the autoupdate to uncheck.

I have tried to update iTunes to the newest version (11.1) which is required to deploy iOS 7 to devices. I am now downloading iOS 7 to the iTunes on that computer. My hopes are that once I download the iOS update, that Configurator will see the update and start working again. Maybe Configurator sees iOS 7 (it does, since I noticed it appeared in the list of apps and profiles that were to be installed on the last iPad I had connected that at least started out working) but does not understand how tro install it because it does not have the update downloaded, yet.


I will post my findings.

I am almost certain I have it. I updated iTunes in order to download iOS 7. After iTunes was updated, I hooked up an iPad (did not launch Configurator, but launched iTunes.) I downloaded and installed iOS 7 on that iPad and was succesfull in updating the iPad. After it was on iOS 7, I hooked it back up and launched Configurator. What do you know, Configurator ran fine, and even updated the profiles normally (as this iPad was a supervised iPad.


I will try a supervising a new iPad, next and post results.

I was also successful in hooking up an existing iPad that was supervised. It is installing iOS 7 as part of the refresh, but it did not crash.


Guess we do not need a newer version of configurator.


By the way, after you update to iOS 7, launch the App store, and you are prompted to download some free apps that Apple Reccomends. This is nothing new, they used to suggest downloading things like iBooks and so on, but now, they include ages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, and iPhoto - all free!

I had the same problem. I performed the following which fixed my crashing CrapFigurator.


I first directly downloaded ios7 using this link

I then determined where to place the "ipsw" file from the link below.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5782?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US


When I tried to copy my download to the location, I noticed two failed download attempts. I put these in the trash and then copied my "ipsw". I was then able to update the iPads in my cart.


I wonder if simply trashing the failed attempts would have fixed our problems, making the manual ios7 download unnessasary.

I can confirm that I found an incomplete .ipsw downloaded, and deleted it. Configurator ran correctly from that point onward, and properly restored a supervised iPad.

The location of the download files is:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.config urator/Firmware/

Here's the bad file:

User uploaded file

That file should have been 1.4GB…
