I have this problem too, my iPad ok but iPhone 5 just says waiting for activation and is the same for FaceTime.

Wondered if there'd be a **** up with this upgrade.

Yes people, Woolfman's solution fixes the iMessage and Facetime issue!!! Hopefully everyone did a backup of your iPhone either using iCloud or your computer before running the iOS 7 update! All you need to do is make sure you have a backup of your iPhone, restore and delete all data from your iPhone (General>Reset>Delete contents and settings), then restore your iPhone from your backup.

Just to let some know my facetime and my imessage would not activate last night before I ugraded. I don't know what happened but it finally corrected itself and haven't had an issue yet since I upgraded overnight. go to general/time and date and try turning off the set automatically and then turning back on. After that go to your imessage in settings and turn it off and back on to try and reactivate. Mine has had problems before upgrade.

I'm with the couple or so guys who probably rightly say that Apple's servers are pretty overloaded right now. I think trying later today rather than resetting everything multiple times (which let's face it has been pretty much reset already after upgrading to iOS7). Maybe a simple power off/on will do the trick. Failing that, I'm going to try the same in the morning. It's taken me until 12pm today to even get iOS7 onto my phone, it wouldn't let me download it yesterday afternoon/evening, gave me a 45 hour estimated download time. There's always good old SMS in the meantime, and fussing over it not working won't make it work any quicker
