Sep 19, 2013 1:36 PM in response to Seanm85by Builder1,This may seem weird but try turning of documents and data in iCloud settings. I saw this in another discussion as the solution to a typing lag problem with iOS 7. It fixed my typing issue and I was also able to activate iMessage and Facetime instantly, after hours of trying other methods. Odd issue but it seems to have worked. I don't use documents and data in iCloud anyway, so turning it off dosen't bother me, although it still will need fixed by Apple at some point.

Sep 19, 2013 2:26 PM in response to Seanm85by Jengreen123,Honestly if you backup your iphone then restore it, then redownload the backup it will work. Trust me I have tried everything, and now this has worked and I could not be more relieved.

Sep 19, 2013 2:29 PM in response to Seanm85by bandnuts,Just thought I'd add in the fun. I've tried everything on the lists (restore, date/time, reset, etc...). Still unable to connect here.

Sep 19, 2013 2:31 PM in response to Seanm85by Marylamb79,Apple told me to do a full restore if it wasn't working in 24 hours. (After I told them I had already done that.) They didn't seem to have all their ducks in a row when I spoke to them. The girl who I spoke with, admitted as much when I said so. Hasn't this happened after each major update? You think they'd figure this out by now.

Sep 19, 2013 2:35 PM in response to DN25by Mle2,Step by step:
1. Do a backup ON YOUR COMPUTER... Not to iCloud
2. Go to settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings
3. Then... When the phone does it's thing and comes back up.. Follow instructions
To restore from most recent backup you just did in step 1
Follow the rest of the prompts to add iCloud acct./FaceTime/iMessage etc.
4. This whole process will likely take a FULL 20 minutes from start to finish (not including downloading
Your music content.. That may take longer depending on your connection, the amount of stuff in your
Media library)
5. This should fix the problem... remember, apples servers are flooded with down loaders also. So iMessage and FaceTime (which also depend on apples servers could be spotty for a bit)
6. Nothing is EVER perfect.. But following these steps worked for me...
Wish you the best

Sep 19, 2013 2:45 PM in response to Seanm85by indochris609,Edit: The forum administrator already removed the part of my comment with the fix. Google this:
FIX - iOS 7 Developer Build beta 1 - iMessage and FaceTime issues - RESOLVED!
and your answer is the first result.
Basically when iOS 7 was released, Apple's servers were overloaded not only with the immense amount of downloads but also the immense amount of activation requests for the software itself. Becuse the servers weren't functioning properly, a lot of people were able to install iOS but not activate it and are stuck in a kind of activation limbo. That's why iMessage and Facetime aren't working. That's why you probably have popups in most of your apps asking to connect to itunes for push notifications. Cheers.

Sep 19, 2013 2:42 PM in response to Seanm85by mausjk,I was having the same issue and I only could send imessage via apple ID, not my phone number.
I just waited until apple fixes their server and when I just checked, it is working and can send imessage via my phone number too.
I guess if everything doesn't work, you have to just let it sit and wait.
