Hi everyone. I just got my iMessage and Facetime working on the iPhone after spending more than a day trying to activate it.

It happened instantly as soon as I update my carrier settings!

I have tried everything else short of erasing everything and restoring it.

    How do you initiate that?

I've been trying relentlessly and have tried EVERY 'fix' posted anywhere online.

I just bit the bullet and reset the phone to factory, erasing everything (backed up on pc of course).

Guess what, it worked first time! ding ding ding we have a winner!

Set it up as a new phone and it works fine.

    THIS WAY ACTUALLY WORKS

    Hi.

I just connected my iPhone to iTunes and the message appeared. I click OK to update and Voila!

Another method according to Apple is this

Follow these instructions to update your carrier settings:

    1. Make sure your device is connected to the Internet.
    2. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.

I think the point is, that unless you're with Telstra in Australia, there are ways to get around the issue.

Come on, Telstra... Fix your iMessage activation gateway!

Carrier settings need to be initiated by your carrier. My carrier Telstra won't initiate  anything till they get their head out of their *****. I tried changing mine to Telstra 14.0 carrier settings just to test but the old method doesn't seem to work on iOS 7..

Both my wife and I had this problem and I fixed it a different way.

I sent my wife an iMesaage from my iMac (OX Mavericks), and she received it fine.

She then replied to me which seemed to jumpstart (!?) my iMessage again.

This only seemed to work for me and my wife though and I had to do it for everyone else (send them a message from my iMac), who had upgraded to ios7 to "jumpstart thier iMessage again.

A good interim fix until it's perminently resolved.

I have the same issue, it says "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." Come on Apple!

Hi everyone - my iMessage is finally working!  Hallelujah but not my Facetime.  Not bothered too much with FaceTime since I have Skype.  But in any case what did I do finally after trying everything else?  NOTHING.  I just waited it out and from time to time I would toggle my iMessage button. That was it.  And finally it just activated.  Honestly I think you just really have to wait it out.  Sorry guys, patience is the key here.

I downloaded iOS 7 to my iPhone 5 as soon as it was available, and have had the same problem ever since.  Even better, yesterday around 1:00 EST my phone stopped receiving text messages completely.  I've tried everything listed in the forums short of complete restore (which is a pain I was trying to avoid), but I've heard many say that didn't work either...Also, many of the posts suggested turning on the "send/recieve" button, but I don't have that option.  That button is not there.

I started a new discussion on this topic that relates specifically to phones on the Australian Telstra network

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5336293

If you can post problems regarding activating iMessage on Telstra there we can improve the signal to noise ratio of both discussions.
