Q: Can I change my iCloud email in iOS 7?

I just installed iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. My iCloud account used to be linked to an old email address, I had changed it to the new email address long before updating to iOS 7 and everything worked great. Now on iOS 7, it's displaying the old email for whatever reason, which I obviously can't use to log in anymore. I also can't seem to type in my current email.

Is there any way to get around this?

Thank you so much droidalunit, this solution you have posted is spot on and works a treat. I have had discussions over the last 2 months with various "experts" ranging from Apple store staff to IT gurus, none of which could work out why I could not delete the existing icloud account from my IPhone 5. I continually was being asked for the password attached to a deleted email address that was my old Apple ID. Thanks again, Santa Clause is real. It's a miricle.

    Cheers

    hi

i managed it by turning on safari within icloud, then browsing internet, then going back into icloud setting and turning off safari

it prompted me to delete safari data

After that i could delete icloud account without password.

i then added in my new icloud account

Ipad worked first time, iphone took a couple of attempts

OK so I tried all the instructions I could find on Apple Support Forms, it did not Work, in addition to the old email which I do not have access to nor do I know the password for, I couldn’t sign in (using my existing email/password) to neither iMessages nor FaceTime but I can sign in to the App Store, so I went to Manage My Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

Clicked on “Reset your Password” entered my old email and chose to “Answer security questions”

After answering the security questions I was able to reset my password which I made sure it matches my existing one, after that I was able to delete my iCloud account using the old email, I still cannot sign in to iMessages nor FaceTime, using LTE and Wifi, but at least my problem is resolved..!

I don't know what will be the solution if I didn’t know the answer to the security questions

***!  Apple still hasn't fixed this bug?

I just upgraded my iphone from iOS6 to iOS7.  I changed my email address last year and have been using my new email address on that phone.  I upgraded to IOS7 and now it thinks my email address of my iCloud account is the old email address from last year.

I upgraded to IOS 7.0.4.  You would think apple would have fixed this bug by now.  They really f$*ked up this one.

Word or warning to everyone, it would be much better to switch to Andriod or Windows Mobile than to change the email address you use for your AppleId.  It will bring you **** if you change your appleID email address.  DO NOT DO IT.

Of course if you never change the email address for your appleID you will be fine and iOS will be awesome for you.

I had the switch my apple ID back to my old email, turn off "Find my iPhone" and then switch the apple ID back to the new email.  Then I was able to delete the iCloud account and login in with the new email ID.

I think a lot of the headache caused by this IO7 bug can be eliminated if you turn off the "Find my iPhone" feature in iCloud before you upgrade your OS.  You will still have to delete the icloud account and create a new one but you won't have to mess around with your appleID at all.

If you forget to turn off "Find my iPhone" and you don't have access to your old email that was your original appleId then you are done.  Your best option might be to just buy a new phone and create an brand new appleID/icloud account with an email that you will never change.  The downside to this is you will have to purchase your apps/music/tv shows/movies etc  all over again.

Apple software developers, please fix this bug!

You don't really need "access" to your old email. All you have to do is change your ID back to it temporarily. You do not have to validate it to do this, so it really is just a name at that point. Whether it is still a valid email is not relevant.

Thanks Gail, that is good to know.  I went through the trouble logging into the old email to verify it when I went through the process but it is good to know that I won't have to do that next time this happens.  If I can just remember to turn off find iphone or find ipad next time then I won't even have to change the appleId again.

    Sorry shoaib,

There is nothing you can do. You need to return the device to the original seller and get your money back. You will never be able to use the device as long as the previous owner's iCloud account and Find My iPhone are turned on.

    Sorry,
