I was using skype on my ipad when the screen froze. I can't close the app or turn my ipad off using the offbutton and the automatic shut down isnt working. Any suggestions?

Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.
pressed the buttons and the screen went black,but no apple logo. Cant seem to get it to turn back on. Any other ideas?
