Q: iPad 2 iOS 7 update error 4013

So I was updating my boyfriend's iPAD and while updating it stopped and gave me a typical error message but with error 4013. It worked fine before and is now stuck in the "connect to itunes mode" recovery mode. I have tried updating and no luck. I have even tried updating in DFU mode and no luck. Anyone git any solutions?

    download the IOS 7 .. http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/18/ios-7-ipsw-direct-download-links/

when you do the restore hold " SHIFT" .. choose the IOS7 .. If not work, back to IOS 6 and upgrade!!

Had the same problem on my iPhone 4S.

Each time i tried to update to iOS 7, it kept coming up with error 4013 (after about 2 minutes of waiting for the iPhone).

After trying it 7 times, i noticed a little icon in the Windows taskbar (each time, right after iTunes said it would prepare the phone for the restore process), which appears when Windows installs a driver for a usb-connected device. In stead of installing the driver, it showed a tiny red circle with a white "X" in it.

Clearly, Windows was unable to install the driver, thus iTunes couldn't continue to update my phone.

This is how I fixed it:

Uninstalled iTunes and rebooted my computer.

Downloaded iTunes and installed it, then rebooted my computer.

Started iTunes and connected my phone, using a different cable (to rule out any cable related issues).

Clicked the "Restore" button in iTunes.

This time the driver installed succesfully and iTunes, immediately, started the restore process.

My phone is now updated to iOS 7, and working fine!

Hope this helps other people with the same problem!

I'm having problems restoring and updating my iPhone 4s to iOS 7!!

I've tried all of these suggestions and it contuines to give me error code 4013.

The most I can get out of it was an apple logo and the loading bar after it started restoring before it went back to saying that it needed to be plugged into iTunes and the error appeared on the screen.

Same thing in my i-pad 2, yesterday I attempted to update to ios7 , at first it was installed correctly, but after some minutes of using it started to swich on-off alone. I tried to restore first in recovery mode and after in dfu, i tried even to reinstall the old ios version but nothing to do. Moreover today i gave to my i-pad a second chance and the result during the restoring process, in the screen, come out some strange sentences like: [NAND] and 429 phisical block offset and something else and after the restoring process was blocked and i-tunes provide to give me the 4013 error. So I suppose that this update have damaged our devices, the strange coincidence is that my warnity is finished some days ago(3 or 4)!! ...at the end yeah i'm very pessimist and sad  -_-  And the other element that's making me thinking is that there isen't any responds of developers out thousand of complains. They say always the same think, use original cables or update i-tunes. But guis the problem is more serious!!

Spent hours trying everything suggested and finally this morning hit on a solution. iTunes must be run as an administrator. Even though you are logged into your PC as an administrator, using the iTunes shortcut does not make you an administrator in iTunes. I found this out by using the diagnostics in iTunes and reading through the results report.

I am using Windows 7, so I clicked the start button and right clicked on iTunes and selected "Run as an adimistrator". The first restore attempt got the 4013 error. I then did the DFU thing, hold power and home buttons for 10 seconds, release power and continue holding home for 10 more seconds.

iTunes gave me the restore message and I clicked it. I clicked the restore iPhone button and it started. The drivers loaded a couple of times. I got the apple logo with the progress bar and this time instead of disappearing, it started to fill in.

End result, a successful restore to factory settings and a happy 14 year old.

    Hope this helps others.

I was having the issues updating my mom's iPad mini via iTunes on the PC.  Using the original cable and still got the "connect to iTunes" screen.  I then realized, as I had this problem updating her iPhone 4 last year, that the cable was connected to the front facing USB ports, which are USB3.  Once I connected the cable to the USB2 ports on the back, the system recognized the iPad again and I was able to restore and update without any issues.

Hope this helps anyone that may be connecting to USB3 ports.
