Ipad says an error occurred and store is not available. iPad not working!

I tried to update ipad using itunes. initially said an error occurred and ipad needed to be restored and then to try update (to IOS 7) after. Tried again. First, new graphics were on ipad and I get as far as choosing my network but then it says error occurring in contacting iTunes Store and to use computer. The iPad cannot contact iTunes store using the computer either. The computer, however, can contact the store when the ipad is not connected.
