Mar 24, 2014 12:24 PM in response to Patukkaby Patukka,I stand corrected! This MAC solution worked!! <insert happy dance>
A lightbulb went off in my head as I turned my attention away from this and I wondered if the Terminal application in Macintosh HD was the same as opening the Terminal application in my user profile. It turns out that was where to find the solution to unlocking the plist files. I wasn't able to unlock the files using the Macintosh HD application but was able to using the user profile application.
Once those files were gone, success with the phone and the laptop trusting each other!
Case closed. I appreciate everyone's help here!

May 5, 2014 7:43 PM in response to roconstaby otakugirl1500,I'm having an issue regarding my IPhone (IPhone 4), after I updated my Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and my IPhone to iOS 7.1.1 and the latest version of ITunes, it started to asking me whether I trust this computer or not. However, after I clickes yes my IPhone just does not show up on the ITunes and I can't sync my music.

May 5, 2014 8:33 PM in response to otakugirl1500by andrewsn,Same thing happened to me though with I-pad and windows 8.1. I eventually went into the control panel and removed every instance relating to apple products: i-tunes, safari, QuickTime etc. it seems a bit excessive but I then downloaded iTunes again and all worked ok

May 9, 2014 8:33 PM in response to Bombegranateby Zellers,Yeah, dude... I've been messing with this same issue for weeks on and off (now 5/9/14--long since iOS 7.0), and your simple suggestion is the one and only thing that seemed to work in my case tonight. We'll see for how long But at least now I can sync my phone and do my bookkeeping and run my small business again... and earn a living and pay the bills. So thanks for the tip!

May 17, 2014 4:27 AM in response to biowizardby Dr. Cheis,I have the same situation as biowizard. None of these fixes changes anything. I can plug my iPod into an already-running computer and it works as expected, but if it is plugged in while the same computer is booting up or restarting, I am asked to trust the computer.

May 28, 2014 7:01 AM in response to JohnPaulWilliamby Stephen Barrante,This may solve the problem for some of you out there. It turns out my issue wasn't related to the cable but to a locked .plist file in the /var/db/lockdown directory. iTunes couldn't write to it, and therefore it it would never save my "Trust" setting.
Here are the steps (exerpt from the full thread here https://discussions.apple.com/message/25162302#25162302)
To confirm which file is the culprit, and easy way was to launch console, plug in your phone and then try to hit "trust". You'll probably see an error related to a .plist file come up in the log. I then launched terminal and used the following command to force delete that file so that iTunes would re-create it with the correct permissions. Just changing the permissions using Terminal did not work.
In terminal:
sudo rm -Rf /private/var/db/lockdown/dragyourfilehere.plist
Enter your username and voila!
Reconnected my phone and saw it re-create the file in the lockdown directory. Hit "Trust" on my phone and it loads up in iTunes.

May 29, 2014 10:03 AM in response to JerryOnTheBlockby WEP_Jr,Hi Folks,
I have a iPhone 4S and am running the latest versions of iTunes, the Apple Mobile Device Driver, etc. I am on Windows 7. I was able to connect the other day and see my iPhone on two different Windows 7 boxes. Now I cannot see the phone on either PC. I have read the thread and done the following:
- Reinstalled iTunes and associated drivers multiple times
- Done the driver repair
- Stopped/Restarted Device Driver
- Done a full reset of the iPhone
- And everything else suggested
Whenever I plug my iPhone into either PC, I get two vibrations on the iPhone, but no message is displaying to "Trust the Computer". It did the other day, but then went away.
I have spent hours researching this... any other clues?
Thank you,
WEP_Jr

Jun 3, 2014 4:43 PM in response to WEP_Jrby Dan4499,I had the same "trust this computer" problem with my iphone 5 and XP.
This worked for me:
On your phone go to settings, touch ID & passcode.
1. Turn Passcode to ON.
2. Enter a 4 digit passcode. Remember this.
3. Connect the USB cable between your phone and computer.
4. Select Trust this computer if prompted.
5. You can now see photos etc from your phone on your computer.
6. Turn the Pass code to OFF.
I didn't run into anymore problems with this horrible fault.

Jun 4, 2014 12:11 PM in response to Dan4499by WEP_Jr,Hi Dan4499,
This seemed to work. But it is strange I have always had to use my Passcode. It is required for use at my work. The strange part is, my computer now sees my phone, but only the 2 pictures I took today. It doesn't see the other pictures that are on the phone and there are over 209 other pictures.
Very strange. I still do not get the message about "Trust this Computer" only two short vibrations. I even get the vibrations when I plug in my wall power charger.
Any other clues?
Thank you,
WEP_Jr

Jun 12, 2014 7:18 PM in response to JohnPaulWilliamby VanRizzle,Solution for Windows XP users!
I uninstalled my old iTunes and installed latest iTunes. Now my iPhone "trusts" without asking repetatively. (Took me almost a whole work-day to figure this out. Jeesh!)
