Apple does magic, I suppose we're so spoiled, expecting everything to work perfectly or be fixed today, which has been the standard at Apple, not always everywhere else. Mavericks is brilliant if you've got the hardware. I started on a PowerMac 6500 running OS8.6, then an iMac running Panther, now an eMac running Tiger. Borrowed a friend's MacBook 2GHz intel with Mavericks installed over !0.6.8 for free, without a hitch! Doesn't take long to start a little computer museum these days!
