Why can't I activate my iphone 5?

I recently tried updating my Iphone 5 to IOS 7. When I did, everything ran smoothly until my phone booted up. When it asked me to activate my phone, I connected to my wifi network then tried it, but I keep getting an error message tht says "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes. If this problem persists, contact apple support." So now I'm here. When I try to connect to iTunes, it won't let me connect to the iTunes store either with another error message.

What do I do? Is it a problem with my phone or something or is it an issue because Apple is getting overwhelmed with people updating to ios 7 kind of thing?
