Q: Stuck at "Connect to iTunes" (error 4005)

Hey there!

I'm just quite tensed right now because I had downloaded iOS 7 through iTunes (Latest) and then hit the "Update" button, and then I could see the "Connect to iTunes" logo on my iPhone 5 and the message on iTunes read "updating iPhone" .... and that took about 5 minutes and after that I got an error "Cannot update the iPhone. Unknown error occurred (4005)" .... and since then my phone is stuck at the connect to to itunes sign ... I tried to hard reset it or take it to the recovery mode (Power + Home, release Power keep Home pressed), but nothing is happening... HELPP PEOPLE!!!

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Some of us don't WANT to restore to factory settings.  I, for one have items in apps that are not backed up and was not expecting this glitch prior to loading the 7.0.1 update.

Terrible that the phone can't even be used for calls when stuck in restore mode.

Please provide a link to how to get out of Factory Reset mode, but not accept the Factory Reset (ie void the Factory Reset option or reverse the download of the iOS update)

    Thanks

Ok I have had this same error again & again too. (iPad mini + Dell PC). This is how I solved this problem:

I connected to a friend's macbook. It seems that when my iPad failed to update to the new OS it found itself in a loop and unable to be detected by iTunes on my PC - Macs don't seem to have this problem.

I then simply updated through my friends Mac.

Lmk if this works for you too!

I have Windows 7 64-bit. Brand new iPad4 - trying to update to iOS7. It got stuck at the "Connect To iTunes" screen.

I uninstalled all Apple software from the PC. Reinstalled it, then rebooted. Still no change.

Then I remembered somone on here saying they had trouble with usb ports on the monitor. The pc in question is an all-in-one type, and I was using the side usb port. I figured this might be configured like a typical monitor usb port so i connected the iPad to one of the rear USB ports instead and THEN it worked and I was able to complete the upgrade process!

Hope this helps someone out there.

"iTunes cannot read contents of the iPhone (my name). Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings."

My iPhone is up to date iOS 7.0.2

I restored my iPhone to factory settings and this same message appears every time I connect the iPhone 4s to computer. There is obviously a problem with iTunes if other people are having the same issue.

Apple ITs should have a decent explanation. I have read the ITs responses in this APPLE community support forum and I have no use for their illogical runaround answers to the current issue.

Please give a sound resolution to consumers who own the iPhone and iTunes.

I would like to confirm that when the iPhone stuck with the connector to iTunes screen, and no heart beat with itunes on PC, it is very possible that the USB connector is not working well with the iPhone,

In my case i had it :

    - once on a 3.0 USB : didnt work

    - on a 2.0 USB , but the same physical USB hub of the 3.0 USB: didnt work either

Than I used the other USB ports on my laptop, which where USB 2.0, it than showed up on the PC (win7) and itunes detected an iPhone in recovery mode. I than restored it and updated it to iOS7.

    Hope this helps someone,

    Rgards

My solution to restore iPhone error but may not work for others.

    1. Make sure wi-fi is turned off on iPhone every time iTunes is open.

    2. Open iTunes

    3. Device is recognized without resetting iPhone over and over again.

    Nik,
I'm trying to do this but cannot get the tiny umbrellas to open. Also, tiney umbrellas comes with a ton of additional software tagged to it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

123Andy, Did you download TinyUmbrella from the link I provided?  It should not have come with any other software and should not have any problem opening.  I have not had either of those issues with it, so I unfortunately don't know what to tell you.  The other option is to download the latest version of R-e-d-s-n-0-w (without the hyphens.  Apple will automatically pull this post if I spell that out), open it, go to "Extras" and select "Just Boot".  This does the same thing as TinyUmbrella.  Good luck!  I can't post the links for it either or Apple will yank this post right away.  Apple, why are you adverse to people getting help when they're having issues with their iDevices?  If you have a fix for this problem of stuck on connect to iTunes screen, then please give it to us.  But don't keep yanking my posts.  I'm just trying to help people with a solution that helped me.
