Q: Stuck at "Connect to iTunes" (error 4005)

Hey there!

I'm just quite tensed right now because I had downloaded iOS 7 through iTunes (Latest) and then hit the "Update" button, and then I could see the "Connect to iTunes" logo on my iPhone 5 and the message on iTunes read "updating iPhone" .... and that took about 5 minutes and after that I got an error "Cannot update the iPhone. Unknown error occurred (4005)" .... and since then my phone is stuck at the connect to to itunes sign ... I tried to hard reset it or take it to the recovery mode (Power + Home, release Power keep Home pressed), but nothing is happening... HELPP PEOPLE!!!

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

***I have just finished sorting mine out, i updated my phone a couple of hours ago and ran into this problem! stuck on 'plug to itunes' and when i plugged it in and tried to restore it i had an error message! very frustrating!!!

I read a few tips on here but i dont trust all these things people are telling you to download... so all i did was plug it into my mums laptop and restored it on there.... it took a while and i thought it didnt work becasuse it made that noise it does when you plug it in... but leave it and stick with it until it says its done, then i clicked restore this iphone or something (whatever it says on the same button as before) and it did it! YEY! its annoying but stick with it, because it worked for me just need to be patient. I was almost falling to sleep! haha ... anyway once it had restored and my phone was on, i unplugged it and then just restored it back to how it was yesterday using icloud on my phone and now its back to normal (my icloud does update regularly automatically though, so luckily havent lost any data as far as i am aware!) id deffo try this step if you can before downloaing anything or paying any money out.   both my mum and i have windows laptops as well incase you are wondering.

Hope this helps someone.... sorry if i made no sense at all!

1.Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
2.Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
3.Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
4.When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.
5.Use iTunes to restore your device.

    Additional Information:
If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself. If you want a faster way to fix iPhone stuck in recovery mode, try iPhone data recovery/ software.

This works except that you may have to try different ports or even a different computer.  I had to use a different port on the same computer.

In response to jcarvajal.  Your advice to come back in 24 hours and try again actually relieved some stress. I am on laptop 2 (after laptop 1 failed miserably for 3 hours). It started with "iPad has a new update".

So I transferred all my stuff in iTunes, updated both iTunes and ipad iOS and did a backup and the ipad gave me that "Connect to iTunes" thing.

I have now failed on laptop 2, uninstalled iTunes on laptop 2, downloaded and installed iTunes of laptop 2' i Tunes actually came up on laptop 2 after the 3rd try/retry of restore. Then I plugged the ipad into the now up to date laptop 2, and got the recovery window, said "restore". 5 mines later I got the 4005 error.  I'm in hour 7 of this "reload" process. It is both comforting and disconcerting to hear that the problem is that Apple servers are overworked and I can just try this again tomorrow. I am surprised that after 3 years of this kind of problem, Apple has to seen fit to do what they are constantly harping at us to do...update.  This is 2016 and it is the same error as 2013.  I wish that they made a UNIX phone and music player.
