IOS 7 - Change message bubble color?, IOS 7 - Change message bubble color?

I'm guessing we still can't change the message bubble colors? It was just annoying before. Now it is a necessity.

The vivid green/white on a white background just makes it hard to see/read for SMS messages...I can go as far as saying that it hurts my eyes. The blue and white are almost as bad for iMessages. I tried inverting the colors in the accessibility settings which helpped for the messaging and made everything else unsuable.

If I can't change the colors I will have to revert the OS (same colors but with black text and less vivid gradients) or change to a phone/OS that allows for better customization/ accessability options. This really *****...I have had a iPhone for a long time.

iPhone 5, iOS 7

I agree. The pale colours are too washed out for the green icons. I can barely read white on green text messages. Is there an option to select an adult colour palette?

Thanks Meg...

I went ahead and entered the feedback but I'm betting my only option will be to change phones and my tablet. Apple is so adamant that there can be no customization that I am doubting it will be a priority. Kinda of silly for a platform known for its grphical ability and because, as a programmer myself, I know that having a few alternate colors/themes should be one of the easier changes.

In the mean time, if you change your background to Greyscale or a muted background it dulls down some of the brightness. I have also turned off the "Auto Brightness" and cut down the brightness to about 1/3 which makes it more usable for some things and really annoying for other things.

Just downloaded the IOS 7 and I want to go back to the previous IOS now!

I am disappointed in the color changes of the new icons with the IOS 7. Within an hour after downloading the new IOS 7 I have been trying to change the text messaging bubble color. I cannot deal with the bright piercing chartreuse green color of the message bubble. This horrible chartreuse green color with the white letters on a white screen number one, hurts my eyes, number two, I cannot read it. I want the nice pale blue with black letters back that I had before I upgraded. Even the color of green on the previous IOS was more pleasing to the eyes than this horrible bright piercing chartreuse green color you have now. I cannot cope with it at all.

If I cannot have a different color bubble (how silly not to give your customer what they want) or allow for me to go back to the older operating system until you change your mind, I will have no alternative but to leave Apple iPhone, iPad behind because your current operating system is hurting my eyes literally and I cannot look at the screen without getting a headache or read my text messages any longer because of the color choice that you have made with no other option for me to choose from.

Now can we talk??? Can the customers get what they want or do you lose more customers due to this horrible color scheme and the refusal to listen to what your customers want, need and desire?

I agree, the entire iOS 7 update is too bright and quite frankly, unsophisticated. I understand Apple started marketing to the younger generation with the obnoxious colors the new 5c comes in, but I really expected more from this iOS update. Not to mention, the new Safari layout makes it almost impossible to use, and it's slower than ever. Everything seems much more complicated with this update. I'm extremely upset. Hopefully 7.1 will create a more enjoyable experience for iphone users, or else I may be switching the the Samsung Galaxy with more customizable options and a better camera 😐

I spent hours yesterday and this morning trying to figure out how to get rid of the white text as well. I am a huge message/texter and even with the type larger and my glasses on, I have to strain to read my messages at best. I hate it. I was hopeful when I saw the question posted that there was an answer. Sad to see there is no other option. I am sure my mother who has macular and cataracts will not appreciate the changes on her iPad when vision is already difficult for her too.

This isn't the first time apple has disappointed me by forcing only one option on us. Thought by now they'd get it right!

Unfortunately inverting colors does not fix it. It would, if it did not literally invert everything including pictures and apps. I do not want to have to go to settings every time I want to view a image.

A few things you can do that helps but does not fix.

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility

1. Turn on bold (your device will reboot)

2. Turn on increase contrast

3. Turn on Reduced Motion

I have not tried to increase text size yet

You should also go to Settings > Wallpaper & Brightness

-Turn off auto brightness and lower the brightness (I had to go below 1/2) and still have issues with all the white.

- you can adjust you brightness on the fly using the swipe up panel on the bottom

Like I said does not fix the really poor look and feel but makes it so I can do some things.

I've given up 80% of my iPad usage and gone back to my laptop. It's making my iPad a big paperweight.

Thanks momberose. It's an option I guess but not a great one. It makes everything else look too crazy. What I did was set the option to invert when I click the home button 3 times so I can use it only when I'm in the messaging app. However, it turns the grey bubble with black type into a black bubble with white type. I just hate the reversed out white type. As a web deisigner you just don't do that for fucntional reasons. It's too difficult for the user to read much of it. Really a poor design concept on apples part.

I agree totally about the colors. I did write using the feedback option BUT expect little or no help. Being color blind it is 100% impossible to see the white text on the Green banner when you get a phone call. Took a few times to realize that was saying SLIDE to answer the call. Same with the light blue icons on the White backgrounds for Mail and other things. Like the comments above, I have gone into Accessibility and made all changes, but really makes little difference. It is NOT a text size, bold issue, but rather a contrast issue (made those changes also). I agree that the new color scheme is NOT good at all and you really have little control over it. Dear Apple: 25% of folks have some color blindness.

this just doesnt seem right to have to use all these settings in the accessibility section just so i can try to enjoy using my phone... just had an eye exam a couple weeks ago and didn't have issue with ios 6 , really wish i didnt update both my iphone and ipad right away.

i have doubts anything will be done with this... this software was beta tested for months and this is what we have.

i did read an article that they did change the font during the beta testing due to user feedback so maybe there is hope now the general public is testing it.
