Q: Can't Remove Old ICloud Account

Hey guys,

A year ago or so I updated my apple ID as the old one was tied to an old email address that I didn't want to use. I updated the details and was able to change things like the apple store settings but was unable to change my iCloud settings.

When I updated to IOS 7, it wanted to use my old ID for ICloud so I skipped that step (there was no other option to change it)

I tried to remove the old ICloud account to create a new one but it asks for a password and I can't remember it.  So...I went online and clicked "forgot passord" then it successfully emailed the reset instructions except it sent the instructions to some other email address that I don't use. It's all very frustrating.  How do I delete the old ICloud?

Thanks again for all your help in advance

Wrong wrong wrong. Not even what is being addressed here. Can you read? He is saying and so am I that when doing an update on an iDevice we are having the problem that a different Apple ID coming up asking for a password. Even after changing the Apple ID in settings it still persists. The reason is because the apps were purchased/downloaded under a different Apple ID then put onto the iPad. But it goes further than this. If you have changed your Apple ID then go to restore your iDevice you have to enter in the password for the old/other Apple ID that you are not trying to activate and have changed in the settings. It's a simple problem issue but the answer had to be handled by Apple for me and in the end I got the answer of a shoulder shrug. Not even Apple can do anything about having apps purchased under an old or alternative Apple ID or change the Apple ID required to enter a password for when restoring. AKA wa-wa-wa-waaah (sad trumpet sound) shoulder shrug, they can't do anything for us. The issue shall persist until you create a brand new iDevice off an upgrade without restoring from a previous backup that ever involved the old Apple ID you are trying to get unassociated with your iDevice.

THERE IS NO FIX BECAUSE THE APPS WERE PURCHASED OR DOWNLOADED UNDER THE ALTERNATIVE APPLE ID!!! APPLE CANNOT HELP YOU! AND IF YOU CANNOT RESTORE WITHOUT ENTERING IN THE PASSWORD FOR THIS ALTERNATIVE APPLE ID THEN THERE IS NO SOLUTION BUT TO CREATE A NEW IDEVICE AND NOT RESTORING FROM A PREVIOUS BACKUP ASSOCIATED WITH THAT APPLE ID YOU ARE TRYING TO GET OFF YOUR IDEVICE. APPLE CAN'T HELP AND HAS NO WAY TO CHANGE THIS.

This works. I only had to use my old Email address as Apple ID (with the current Apple ID password) then went on my iPad and was finally able to delete the old iCloud account. Went back to Apple ID re-edited the Email address using the new one and everything went smoothly. I now have a new iCloud account on the iPad as well. Thank you

How to verify an email address that was unverified from an Apple ID

An email address can become unverified from your Apple ID if it is verified with another Apple ID. This is possible only when the other Apple ID matches the email address exactly. You cannot reverify that email address unless you own both Apple IDs.

If your email address does become unverified from your Apple ID, you must add and verify a new primary email address before you can use that Apple ID with certain services. The easiest solution is to add and verify a new email address, as described in the section of this article entitled “How to verify the primary email address for your Apple ID”.

If you want to reverify the same email address (the one that does not match your Apple ID), you must first change the name of your other Apple ID so that the email address becomes available again. See the section of this article entitled “How to edit your Apple ID and primary email address.”

    Hey!

So I had an issue with this and after spending hours trying all the different ways of getting around it (trying to change to old Apple ID, resetting Facetime and iMessage, etc.) the thing that worked for me was a software update. Basically I updated to the newer version of iOS 7.0.4 and chose to skip the prompts to sign into the old (unusable) iCloud account. I then once again attempted to delete the old account in iCloud settings and it signed out and allowed me to set up my regular Apple ID account. I don't know if it'll do that for everyone but if nothing else works, a software update might help.

This helped me out SO much! I suggested this to the technician on the phone but she just continued to run in circles with me. This answers the question with what to do when you accidentally make two apple IDs.
