Any way to turn off iOS 7 navigation animations?

The zoom animations everywhere on the new iOS 7 are literally making me nauseous and giving me a headache. It's exactly how I used to get car sick if I tried to read in the car.

How do I turn them off? Do I have to revert to 6?

I strongly disagree with most of these posts.

Regarding Fluff:

I very much like the new transition effects and I love the parallax on the home screen. Is it strictly necessary? No. But its a nice touch that enhances the whole iOS7 experience. It makes everything feel more polished, more modern, and more fun (fun is allowed right?).

To be honest, there are a lot of features on a lot of phones and computers that are not strictly necessary. Fancy icons - who needs em! Drop shadows around windows - meh, just use a black and white high contrast borders! Rounded corners - what’s the use of that!!!

If you genuinely object to "fluff" then where do you draw the line? Its a very slippery slope that eventually leads all the way back to old-school command-line interfaces.

Regarding Motion Sickness:

There are lot of complaints about the zooming, but I'm skeptical that one can get motion sickness from a split second effect that only happens occasionally. It's not as if the phone is constantly zooming in and out. It really only happens when you return to the home screen. And the new zoom effect is really only a slight refinement of the same zoom effects that have always been part of iOS. Meantime, the parallax effect is so subtle that even though it is indeed constant (at least while you are on the home screen) I hardly even notice it. None-the-less, I accept that not everyone in the world is just like me (*gasp*), so it would be nice for Apple to allow these effects and transitions to be turned off. Having said that, I'd be willing to bet that a large percentage of users will leave it on and be just fine - even a few who have complained in this forum.

My research suggests that it is a very real problem attributed to Neuro-Ocular Vestibular Dysfunction, or what's been coined: See-Sick Syndrome.

This sickness problem only seems to be affecting a small amount of users. Consider yourself very lucky if you don't experience the intense nausea, eye fatigue and headache. Do not discount what I and many others are reporting as actual responses to something tangible in iOS 7.

Again (since it's obvious you have not read most of this forum) it's not just the zooming of animations that makes me (and others) incredibly sick (although it does aggravate the nausea even more) but using the interface as usual (i.e. reading texts, e-mail, switching apps, etc.) makes me terribly and uncomfortably ill after a minute or two. It goes beyond just the interface zooming and parallax in iOS7, it seems to be something with a buzz or vibration (for lack of a better description) coming off the screen.

You don't have to believe it but it is absolutely a problem, so much so that I had no choice but to trade my iOS 7 tainted iPhone 5 for a new iPhone 5 with (old) iOS 6.

It's upsetting because I relish the new design aesthetic in iOS 7...

Erik, you are entitled to your opinion, however this doesn't change the fact that this does genuinely affect people with motion-sensitivity. Unless you are a doctor or medical professional dismissing these claims, your opinion unforuntately carries no weight. If anything, it just shows an insensitivity to people who are having problems.

If you can believe that constant zooming in an out can be dizzyness for some people, is it really beyond reason that less-frequent zooming could cause problems for people more sensitive?

As for parallax, this does not seem to be a core issue for most affected on these forums. Personally, I am really affected by the zooming, but not so much from parallax.

You are least correct in saying that not everyone in the world is like you. That seem to be the main argument for people ridiculing us on these forums - "Hey I have no problems with the motion, so it's impossible that anyone else can! And if you do, you're either a bunch of whiners or liars!"

You are also correct in saying that most users will keep these effects on, because the reality is, a great majority of people are not affected at all. Maybe 95% of iPhone users are unaffected.

However, for us in the 5% who are posting here, I can almost guarantee you that we'll all be disabling these animations as soon as it is made available. Because it's not a simple issue of personal preference or design aesthetics -- it's causing REAL motion sickness, nausea symptons and lingering headaches.

We are not posting here to whine and complain and say that "I hate Apple". I like Apple and love my iPhone and IOS 7, for the most part. All we want is a disable option.

I hate the zooming effects wholesale and I would like an option to stop them.

Yet, unless you keep opening and closing apps while being hypnotized by the display, I don't see how one can get motion sickness. This is really strange. I'd understand if the zooming would give you dengue fever, nosebleeds or osteosarcoma but dizziness? Nah.

More importantly, IOS7 has killed my main camera, my FaceTime camera most of the time, and my flashlight from time to time. It has also wrecked some of my apps.

Finally, even though I changed my settings to "NO" to absolutely everything, I keep receiving this surreal thread. Can someone at Apple please do something about this? And about the stock price while he's at it?

My camera is just fine, I don't see how yours can be affected. I'd understand if everyones camera was not working but that is not the case. You must have a weak iPhone.

I find the transitions to be be horrible. I made the mistake of upgrading my iPad but I won't do the same with the iPhone. I will continue with the 4S until it truly breaks.

The thin fonts are also quite unreadable. Coupled with the transparency and the brightness/lightness/whiteness of the new OS, I'm surprised it hasn't induced migraines. This is an absolute failure from Apple. I'm sure many/most like it. But given that a not-so-insignificant number of people find it physically disruptive.... one has to wonder how it made it out of the gate.

Everything is more difficult to see or read.

IMHO: turning off all animation most likely WILL NOT alleviate most incidences of motion sickness in those suffering from it. It seems to be more a function of something similar to refresh rate or FPS because I would get sick just looking at the lock screen, it felt like it was buzzing or vibrating.

The only other thing I can attribute to nausea in iOS7 is the thinness of fonts and lines along with juxtaposition of certain color schemes. There are colors (i.e. bright blue on dark red) that can create quite a vibration even on the printed page let alone a back lit screen.

Anyway.. I hope I'm wrong and the ability to turn off all animation really does do the trick..

100% agreed. This goes beyond the zooming.

I think there's an issue with the device refresh rate. I can look at a static iOS 7 screen for 2 minutes and start to feel eye strain. I can look at an iOS 6 phone all day and never have any issues.

You're right, that color combination is very uncomfortable to look at.

And I'm sure there are other issues beside the app zooming that can be addressed to further help the issue, as you've stated.

But for the time being and as a quick fix, if they just disable the app zooming, I'm hoping that will alleviate most of the issues for most affected users. I don't want them to get caught up and takes lots of time to fix 100 potential problem areas before they release anything at all...

And then later they can further fine-tune other settings to completely optimize the visuals.

I had a clear headache on the first day os using isos7..had to pop a few headache tablets to make it go awy. Dnt know about the parallax effect bu the zooming in and out of apps really hurt my eyes and indirectly my head.

One way around it is to have everythign in folders but the zooming still takes place for wahtever is on the dock.

The effect is as if you are reading a book while simultaneiously bringin it closer and away form your eyes. The eyes try to focus very quickly to this distance and hence leads to a headache i guess.

i have never had motion sickness in my life from water, cars, moving vehicels or even skydiving for that matter.

Please let me know if there is a disable feature in the future for this.

Hello, i am Russia please translate to English very very intresting

Same here. It was also giving me tremendous headaches. Its these neon whites and other bright colors that are killing my eyes. What was Sir Jonathan Ive thinking when he decided to switch from soothing background/foreground colors in ios 6 to these bright colors in ios7. Of course its going to appeal to the young generation but there are other age groups too.

Before switching back to ios6, I also noticed that now the music's progress/forward/rewind button is so small that its not easy to navigate anymore. A lot of time you miss the target which is a tiny cursor like small bar. The area not covered by album cover is bright white. That looks so cheap and childish.

Apple: Please allow users to select another desktop theme that is more soothing to eyes.
