I was having this issue and solved it by getting off my home wifi network. Airdrop uses wifi to create a 1 to 1 network with the other phone in the equation. If those phones are currently already on a wifi network it can't create a second connection to use for sharing data and therefore nothing shows up in the airdrop space on the sharing screen. Once I told my phone and my wife's phone to "forget" our home wifi network airdrop worked like a charm. I'm not positive the above logic makes sense as I'm not well versed in mobile technology, but the end result is what I was looking for. Hopefully this works for others.

I´ve found a bit of information that might help some. Airdrop iPhone 5 to Macbook. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1757410

Now for those, having trouble with Airdrop iPhone 5 to iPhone 5, it seems simple your device is not equipped with the capabilities, if you go to a apple store you will see a ¨New¨ mac os x device find your iPhone5 no problem! but you can't find it! weird eh?.. it isn't

Your LMP is out of date

Apple needs you to go out and buy the latest!

SAME HERE!

OS X: YOSEMITE 10.10

IOS (for both ipad and iphone): 8.1

I am having troubles with sharing files to and fro Mac and iPhone/iPad. My phone can't see my Mac, and my Mac can't see my phone/tablet. However, my Mac can detect other Macs. I've checked other help videos and tutorials, some say I should bluetooth pair my phone and my Mac, I've tried that, but it still didn't work.

I am also confused as my Mac doesn't show the airdrop availability, as such:

Note: My phone is set to 'EVERYBODY'. In fact, it can detect my iPad and other handheld apple products as well.

How do I connect my Mac and my iPhone/iPad? Why can't i edit the airdrop availability on my Mac?

Perfect solution! Worked for me...

  • Turned Airdrop, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi OFF on BOTH phones (iPhone 5 and 5S)
  • Turned Personal Hotspot OFF on iPhone 5S
  • Rebooted both iPhones
  • Turned AirDrop back ON, on both iPhones, which automatically switched on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on BOTH iPhones
  • Set AirDrop permissions to EVERYONE
  • Shared a photograph successfully in BOTH directions

I'm having the same problem trying to use AirDrop between my MacBook Air running OS X 10.8.5 and my iPhone5 running IOS 7. The MacBook has Wifi and Bluetooth enable, and the Finder window showing AirDrop shows the little icon on the left sidebar searching. But it can't see my iPhone5.

On the iPhone5, I have Wifi and Bluetooth enabled, and AirDrop set to Everyone. But when I go to share a Photo, my MacBook doesn't appear as an option to be selected.

I have exhausted everything for Airdrop to work to transfer files from my iPhone 5 to an iPhone 5. I have set Airdrop settings to "Everyone" for both iPhone 5. Also tried to turn on Bluetooth and Wifi. I also have tried to close all apps running in the background and rebooted both phones. But somehow I couldn't get it to work to transfer photos from the Photos app. None of that is working no matter how hard I try to tap the Airdrop option on the Photos app. I don't know what else to do and I don't want to restore my phone.

I had the same problem and figured out.

My case was: airdrop wouldn't connect mi new iPhone 5s with my old iPhone 5.

I Tried all possible combinations of settings: on/off Bluetooth, wifi, airdrop, for everyone/contacts only, disconnected from wifi. Nothing worked. The point is i had my new iPhone 5s with the personal hotspot on, and the iPhone 5 was previously connected there. Even when i disconnected the iPhone 5 of the personal hotspot of iPhone 5s it wouldn't work.

So what i did was: i turned off hotspot on iPhone 5s, disconnected both phones of wifi, turned off airdrop, wifi and Bluetooth on both phones, and turned off, then on both phones. When they rebooted, i turned on airdrop for everyone in both phones, immediately wifi and Bluetooth started, i shared a picture and " taraaaa" it worked!
